What to bring
Bring a good tent. Remember, the tent is your protection against the rain and the wind. Get a good one with rain flaps and learn how to pitch it securely. On one of the nights, a tent (not ours) collapsed:

Bring a ski goggle for John Gardner pass or wear a balaclava to protect against the constant pelting from ice and sediments.

Close your mouth (or you will find yourself digesting sediments).
Secure everything you have on you from hood of the jacket to sunglasses, bag straps and rain cover. Rodrigo taped my rain cover but it still managed to escape. My sunglasses flew off but I managed to catch it in time (which is why I thought ski goggles would be a better idea).
When the wind is too strong, squat down (instead of trying to keep balance standing up).
